Uppity Up and Up

Saturday 11th April

What a day! Woke up late, Dave got us going, straight up a hill. Should have taken that as an omen. Dodgey Dave GPS, has looked at our age, weight etc, (had to enter that when we got him), and decided we shouldn't be cycling, and sent us down an awesome hill to a gorgeous little secluded beach, to........catch a Ferry! What the frickin hell Dave?

Quirky little house we found while Walking up hill.
It was only 16C but there was steam coming off me. Will kept apologising, but he had not done anything wrong. Dave had taken it upon himself to send us the quickest route to Begur, 60kms from Lloret De Mar. Bloody idiot. So first major bit of walking since Calpe, and almost as bad.

Black Betty is still too heavy. ...she needs to exercise more.
Got out of that drama using old Madam Google, and decided to stop in Tossa De Mar (Daves a tosser) and download the manual to stop Dave putting us on Ferries. He didn't come with any instructions.

Just make him work Will.
Finally got himself together and us on the coastal road we were looking for. Bloody idiots! What did we pick this route for? 1-2kms up, 500mtrs awesome down, then do it all again. Do this for 20 odd kilometres or until your legs give in, or your lunges burst! Yeah, yeah, yeah, the views were Amazing! Really amazing. (Will seams to think I have exaggerated a bit, as we started at sea level, and finished at sea level...huh!)

Zoom in and you can see Will leading the pack. ..for a second.
Ugh, that hurts, but Wow look at the view?
Yep Jen, Chuck Norris would be proud. Pain is just weakness leaving the body.
Billions of cyclists passing us in different directions, some serious, some giving us encouragement and some looking at us like we were totally daft.

Going up is bloody hard, but looking back is satisfying.
That is the ferry Dave wanted us on, would have been nice too.
Excited about the downhill run are we Will?
Crazy man made bridge. There were people on it...
I'd had enough by Sant Feliu De Guixols, and after the cold but relieving downhill run into town, I threw in the towel for the day. So glad we did, as we met Mark from Ginoa (Spain) who had been cycling for a couple of weeks or so in a loop and heading back off home today. He recommended using Warm Showers, an internet based free bed/room swapping thing. We are registered but haven't used it yet. We are going to give it a go in France.

Roll into town straight into this. An old monastery. Awesome.
Hostel Zurich, we'll stop here and watch everything.
Then, as we sat in the sun warming up (and having a beer), a group of four guys with touring bikes and all the gear, pulled up. Three French guys, and one Englishman who has lived in France for 8yrs. They stayed and chatted with us for a couple of hours, which was awesome, and Howard (the Pommy guy), told us how he is planning to come to Australia and ride across the Nullabor. We exchanged details, and hopefully we can meet again.

Will trying to speak Spanish/French the Aussie way.
What was this little guy doing out of it's handbag?
If only it was full of champagne.
We are heading down for dinner and an early night. We are aiming for France in the next two or three days, max. Got to be there for Will's birthday on Tuesday. All in all, we did great, not as much swearing as the Mundabiddi and the hills were just as severe. Well done us!
