Dodgie Dave Delivers

Sunday 12th April

69kms of fantastic. It was a battle between Dave and Madam Google to start the day. We ignored them both and went straight to the beachfront for our morning toddle to warm up.

Loading up wondering what is in store today.
Giving Dave another chance, after the disaster from yesterday, we fired him up. The bastard likes to start his day with a mighty incline, for at least a kilometre. My legs were feeling it from yesterday and it was a tough start.

Not the smoothest, but the water looks great.
Dave had a bit of a zig zags route planned for us today and we both were a bit concerned. But, this is supposed to be an adventure, so fingers crossed and Dave's in charge. He directed us down along the beachfront to Palamos, which was beautiful, and long. There were heaps of people walking, riding, running, and giving us plenty to look at. One lovely lady walking on the beach, made us look twice, as she appeared to have a bikini top on, only it was pulled down showing everyone her ample bosoms. She was no bikini model.....

Yes,  Will,  you did see what you thought you saw....
We stopped to reset Dave for our next destination, and then headed towards Palafrugell. Straight onto the C31, before we took Dave's advice and veered off not a Via Verdi. It was dirt, but took us through some great rural plots.

Just reset Dave and stop relaxing and people watching.
The route took us around Pals, to the old town, which was awesome, so we stopped for lunch there. From here to L'Escala, we zig zagged through little old villages, rice paddies, hops fields, and the most amazing scenery. This was what I was looking for. Before we new it, we had ridden 54kms and were at our first option for stopping. We felt good so decided to press on a bit more.

This riding must be too easy if Will can snap pics at the same time.
Fields and fields of rice.
Our beautiful lunch spot. Hard to leave.
Now he thinks he can fly....Wished for that yesterday.
Big skies and green fields.

Finally saw some donkeys. Smelled lots and seen what they leave.
Lovely fields of canola.
Refilling our water. Must have ridden past heaps of these.

Yay,  we are actually on the Eurovelo 8.

Hops everywhere. Miles and miles of it.

Will can't find his other glove. Too many beers at lunch? In your armpit.
We reprogrammed Dave again for a tourist spot along the Beach of the Gulf of Roses. It is a massive beachfront, with a lovely path along it. There is also some good nature areas, Ruins of the Empire, but no camping. We checked with Madam Google for camp grounds, and there was one a couple more kays down the road. When we got there, we noticed it was deserted, and the biggest camp ground I have ever seen. We rode through it, thinking that we might get away with a sneaky camp, but chickened out. There was another one next door, that was also closed. Apparently the bigger ones don't open until end of May. We managed to find one that is open, another 4kms on. Very nice, Camping Aquerius! Great spot, grass and lots of clean, hot showers.

Empty campground. Biggest one I've ever seen.
Nice grassy camp. Get the washing dry.
We had a fantastic day and tomorrow, hopefully, we will make it to France...
