Could it Get Any Better?

Tuesday 31st March

After our strange day yesterday, and lots more kilometres than we planned, we had a big dinner, beers, wine and laughs. We stayed up too late, because we had to wait until 8:30pm for dinner. Will was nearly minus an arm, I was so hungry.

So instead of waking up early and being on the road by 8:30am, (we had thoughts of beating our personal best, distance wise) we got up as usual, had breakfast and coffee, as usual, and left just after 10am, as usual!

That was almost the last " usual" part to the day.

Path along a small river
It was a little like our last riding adventure.
We were a bit over checking the maps constantly, so after checking them out, we decided to just wing it a bit today. So we had gentle ride, North along the beach until it ended, then found a track along a river, heading in the general direction we needed to go. It was a great start, and nice warm up.

Shopping done, where is Will? Aseos!
We found ourselves at the supermarket, just what we needed, then off along the cycle path heading north again. Next we had a fast paced few kays, as no cycle path or shoulder, and lots of trucks. This took us into Castellon, which is a busy port, but also looked like an upmarket tourist spot. Time for a quick coke, and carry on North.

Awesome cycle path

The road to Benicassim
Found another great cycle path, watched some parachutist coming down, a plane taking off, then found ourselves suddenly in Benicassim. We had ridden 15kms in no time, because the views were amazing, and we had cycle path, beach and people to keep us occupied. Holy shit, it is beer and lunch o'clock already.

Along the beach at Benicassim

Lovely lunch spot on a lovely 31C day.
Finding ourselves a prime location, sorting out a beer and a burger, we relaxed into the people watching. A group of Poms pulled in on their electric folding bikes, and we had a chat. The older two live in Benicassim for 10mths of the year, renting a five bedroom villa for 450€/mth. They told us about a great bike path to the next town, that goes through and over the edge of the mountain. So we took it.

At the top of a short hill, the view back where we'd been.
Love riding through the old tunnels.
Will was loving himself sick.

Always a turret at the top.
The last tunnel was a long one, we even needed our lights on.
Wow! What a win for us. It was an old rail line track, and it was great fun to ride, with stunning views of the sea, tunnels and only a few small inclines. It ended in Orpesa. From there we hopped on the N340, for a short run then through some back lanes, and farm land to Camping Torrenostra, our stop for the day.

Almost there...where?

Torrenostra camping. Loving the gravel bed.
We discovered we had been on a special cycle trail, Ruta10, part of a bunch of trails a group called BTT, have put together. It was cool.

Things you may like to know about Spanish Campgrounds; bring your own toilet paper, it is hard to vampire free power (they disconnect all power points), and most tent sights are gravel.

We had to ride 1km for dinner on the beach, then home in the dark.
