But the flights with Qantas/Emerates were wonderfully hassel free. Getting checked in was quick and effortless, with only one question about having no return tickets..."You are doing what? Riding to London from Madrid?" "Ok!"
We sat in the departure lounge and had a couple of drinkies to help us into sleep mode once on board, updated blogs etc and before we knew it, we were onboard and in the air. No turning back now.
A couple of movies, a couple of meals and a few hours sleep and we were in Dubai. This airport just seems to be continually growing and in a state of construction, so by the time we bussed off the plane to the terminal, got through security, found our gate and bought some water, it was time to board again. No complaints, they are very efficient and organised.
Another couple of movies and meals and a packet of M&Ms and a bit more sleep, we were here in Madrid. Getting through was way too easy, passport check was "Hola, where you going now?" "Here for two days then Alicante" "OK" . Stamp then through. Once our bike boxes came through and we were heading for the exit, customs was a nice lady who quickly asked what was in the boxes, we said "Bikes" she said "OK", done. Could have been 30kgs of drugs, she didn't look like she really cared. Ha ha ha.
We decided to take a taxi with the boxes, so we had to wait a bit. But it was worth it, as I forgot they drive on the wrong side of the road. The driver was on the wrong side, we got in the wrong side it all seemed strange. When we got into the city, he found the little lane where our Hostel Buelta was, and backed the van right down it to the door, and we were here.
I can't believe it is actually happening. We were shattered and went to sleep about 4:30pm, it early, but I could not stay awake. Done in.
