Javea Holiday

'So we slept like the dead on Sunday night, after our ride, and woke on Monday to an overcast cold day. But we could have a hot shower, and get our washing done. Will cooked us up some bacon and eggs, thanks Rob for sorting that out, and we relaxed in the villa. Rob came and collected us just before lunch and gave us a tour of the port, the town and the old town. Most importantly, he helped us sort out SIM cards....yay!

They are not mafia. Will and Rob in the Old Town.

Cute old town.

Cute little beers.
Rob took us to the supermarket so we could get some food, and supplies (beer), then dropped us home. Toni (we're using her villa), has put us in contact with a group of her friends who are going to help show us around. Tonight Karen is taking us out for dinner.

Karen's broken down
Well, maybe not! Karen arrived around 7pm, and after short introductions we all jumped in the car.....and it was like..."Here we go, here we go, here we go....". Nothing! Not even a tick when she turned the key. No lights, no whirring, nout! Poor Karen. She was quite distressed, and I suppose my laughing was not really appropriate. We tried to bump start it, but it wouldn't have a bar of it.  Now, I hope you all remember the "UPFUCKINGHILL" ? Well we had just rolled down that, and come to a quiet stop at the round about.  Luckily, Karen new the lady who lives right there, and she was home. Saved!

Rhonda our saviour.

So we got meet Rhonda, she is Scottish, and super friendly. She got out her old Volvo, and jumper leads and cheerfully told us she had no idea how to do it. Karen also had no idea, so we were all glad Will was here and had plenty of practice from the roadhouse days. A couple of minor hiccups, how to open the bonnet of Karen's Opal estate, and where the hell is the battery in Rhonda's Volvo XC90. With a Google search (thank good we got Sims today), and detective Will, we got the beast going, so off we went for round two. We got around the block, and back to Rhonda's. Lights were flashing, it was stuttering and we were not confident. So Rhonda took us in, cooked us dinner and helped get Karen's car taken care of. And we got to meet Scruffy.

Dinner on the go

Scruffy the wonder dog.
So, Rhonda is taking us for coffee tomorrow, and we will try again for dinner with Karen on Wednesday.

Rhonda and Will on the sea front.
Tuesday started out sunny, but cool, Will did some bike maintenance, and we had a nice coffee and lunch with Rhonda. Will and I shared our first Paella. It was really nice. We did a bit of shopping and chilled out reading books watching the weather come in. It rained for the rest of the night.

Paella at last. ..yummo.
Wednesday, we had talked ourselves into taking Toni's car out for a burl. It is a brand new Citrion Cactus. Of course it is left hand drive and they drive on the right hand side of the road. No way was I having a drive!

Yeah,  it really is called a Cactus.
We planned to go see some waterfalls, El Algar, about 50kms back near Altea. I navigated, Will drove. Only one wrong side of the road incident, where we turned right onto the left side of the road. No oncoming traffic, so phew!

Pretty,  but not spectacular.
We had some lunch and checked out the falls. It is very touristy, and I could imagine how busy it would be in summer.

Don't do it Will, it's freezing.

We decided to take a different route home, through the Sierra de Berne y Ferrer. What an awesome drive. Not if I was driving....Will did a great job through the winding roads. Spectacular views and scenes. So glad we took that road.

The road to Callosa D'en Sarria

Tàrbena in the back ground.

Winding, worse than New Zealand.
Looking down on Parcent
Home again, and rest a little before attempt two with going out with Karen. Karen took us to the village she lives in, 5 minutes away, called Benitichell. She took us up the hill to where her school is, (she is a teacher) and the view was awesome.

View from Benitichell. Stunning.
We had Chinese, which was great, and a lovely chat. She took us to her house, which was lovely, and we met her daughter and one of her cats. Another successful day.

Karen and her daughter Bianca.

Today we are going for bicycle ride around, as it is sunny, and we are unloaded. Then out for one last dinner with Toni's lovely friends. Tomorrow we head off for Gandia and hopefully our first night camping. Fingers crossed.

Seafront looking so nice in the sunshine.

Looking just like the Mediterranean should.

Beer and grilled squid.....that will get us home.

Curse you google maps, it's a dead end up this hill.
