Day 6 - Clean Up In Collie

Day 6 - Collie

Yarri Hut is set in a really pretty spot. It has a veranda that makes you think you are up high in the trees (After getting up all those dam hills, I am sure we were up in the trees).

I had a pretty restless night, with cramping muscles and just plain soreness, so it was really nice to wake up to a cup of tea and a bowl of porridge already made by Will. He also had a restless night due to dreaded mozzies and soreness.

We both were wondering if we were going to make Collie today, feeling so exhausted, but we also really wanted a steak and a cold beer. Oh, and a nice hot shower. We were also on our last clean undies.

The start was 1.5km downhill, but that wasn't easy. Lots of breaking and slow going. But it did get easier, and we found a good pace.

As we were coming around a bend Will was doing a strange wavey thing with his hands and shooshing me. I breaked and finally looked up to see a cute little wallaby just sitting in the middle of the path. Very cute.

There were lots of nasty hills, but absolutely stunning bush. We just rested lots and drank heaps and pedalled even more. We admired the amazing flowers and scenery and shit our pants when an enormous Bungarra ran across the path in front of us.

We found ourselves in an area of Banksia where we stopped for lunch (hardly any flies).....and found ourselves giggling stupidly as we savoured our last lunch of Baked Beans....I don't even like them but they were delicious...

I got really excited when were 5km out of Collie, it was going to be downhill the rest of the way! Lies, dam lies. Ewing street. Oh my god, who does that when you have just ridden 40km? An humongous thigh burning, lung burning, bastard hill of hills. Will just put his head down and got at it. I swore at it hoping that would calm it down, and had to stop once to allow my heart to calm down.

But then there was a long long long downhill to town. Oh yes it was so good to make it to Collie and a hot shower. 46km. Our personal best.
