The People You Meet

02/10 - 03/10/15 Streaky Bay

Bruce and Marg were nowhere in sight when we crawled out of our tent. Well on their way to Venus Bay, I'd say. It was a beautiful morning, the tide was out and the Pelicans were in, and we just sat in our little chairs and enjoyed it all for a while. We whipped up some ham and egg toasties, with some coffee, then Will went to do some hand washing, while Rob, Max and I did some real people work. Paying bills, checking emails, following up stuff and dealing with finances. There is no avoiding some of this stuff.

Good morning Streaky Bay.

The work won't do itself, unfortunately!

Rob and Max went off to do their own thing, and we went in search of the Op Shop. We both wanted to find some extra clothes, and would you believe I have forgotten my bathers. Luckily, I am due a new pair, but they are not easy to find in this area. I may not find any until Port Augusta or even Adelaide. So we had a nice explore of the town, and decided it was pretty nice. Finally we found the Op Shop, and bought a couple of items.

Streaky Bay Sailing Club.

The jetty and the foreshore.

Fingers crossed they have something.

Next was a beer at the pub, it was starting to get pretty warm, and with all the walking, well, we were thirsty. As we walked up the ramp, we spotted the other guys, so joined them. They were talking with a local, Geoff, who is a commercial fisherman, and he'd just finished his round of fishing. He offered to fillet a few King George Whiting for our dinner. Super nice guy, and funny. He told us lots of great stories, and then went off to get his filleting knife. We took it in turns going to the shop and getting supplies, and the Will, Geoff and Max went off to do the fish thing.

There's the pub, let's give it a crack.

Now it is a real cyclist convention.

Geoff, the awesome fisherman who gave us some beautiful fish.

Will scaling, Geoff filleting. Thanks guys, great job.

In the end, we had a great afternoon, sharing stories, drinking, laughing, and shopping. Max had gone and bought some seafood for us all to share, and Rob and team Wiljen had sorted other goodies for dinner. We returned to the caravan park, taking heaps of awesome sunset photos on our way, and once again took over the BBQ area. It was a seafood bonanza, done in tapas style (mainly because we each only had minimal plates and cutlery). It was fantastic, Salt and Pepper Squid, Garlic BBQ Prawns, fresh Raw Oysters and fresh Whiting! Salad and more drinks.

Oysters and Salt and Pepper Squid. The convention in full swing.

I actually tried a fresh oyster. Do you know what? It was really nice. Nothing like it.

We all agreed that it was the best meal we'd all had in ages, and went to bed full and satisfied. The main aim of Saturday, was to watch the AFL grand final at the pub, so we just chilled out admiring the view, in the super wind (should have been riding South with a tail wind). It was decided that we'd all head off on Sunday, so we all got our stuff together and did some final shopping. Then it was pub time. Unfortunately the game was a bit of a disappointment, with Hawthorn outplaying the Eagles hugely, and we then decided to leave the pub and make our own dinner instead of eating out.

Sunset over the jetty, magnificent.

There it goes.....

Good night sun, thanks for a great day.

So another BBQ take over and another nice night, and we are all ready to move on. It is school holidays, a long weekend, and the kids have moved in. We are moving out! So tomorrow we all ride together. It will be a different experience. Looking forward to it.
