We had a great night around the campfire, dribbling to ourselves and fixing the problems of the world. It was cold but we'd sorted our sleeping bags out, and joined them together. It was toastie. But it was not easy to get up, again, in the morning! All those drinkies around the fire, and the very low temperature made me last out of bed again.
Bazz cooked us up some "bacon and some beans" (there is a song there), and we all got into packing up and enjoying the scenery and the long drop toilet. It really is an awesome camping spot. The birds, the trees, and it didn't take long to warm up.
Will did well catching the sun on the rock formations and bush....
We sent the support crew ahead to scout the road, and ensure us a safe route. Luckily we did, along the way, were dead kangaroos, washouts, and one hell of a giant King Brown warming itself across the road. Whoah, that would have caused me to come off, for sure!
Cruising through the bush fire zone, another apocalyptic scene.
Ooh, thank you Barry for clearing these off the road. Poor buggers!
The morning was an enjoyable ride, but there were quite a few hills, and the wind was doing everything it could to ruin it. Slowly eating away at my attitude, which was fragile already. Luckily, Barry and Lizzy had stopped and organised some lunch for us, in a nice shady roadside spot, which gave me a refresher for a little while.
Look at these crazy nutters, what do they think they are doing?
I just can't help laughing at these crazies......says Barry.
After lunch, things just got a bit harder. My fingers were hurting (thank you Ross River, and alcohol), and the road surface was pock marked and the hills were long, and then the Easterly just gave it everything it could, and I started to fall behind a bit. After another rest stop to sort my attitude, we head off on the last run.
Will experimenting with his shoot from the hip technique. Nice one!
Go on Will, show us how you can eat them.....
At last we saw the sign, and turned in. The track in, had some fanny mashing corrugations, and was another 1.5kms, which is just what I needed after that day of rough riding. But as we pulled in, all was made right. There was Melba, Barry and Lizzy (Nicole was busy working), with our gear and a beer for Will. Not for me, I don't want these sore fingers tomorrow.
We relaxed, got the tent sorted, and went for an explore over McDermid Rock. It was very interesting, and has a smaller version of Wave Rock, a Balancing Rock, and lots of Gnamma holes filled with the worlds biggest tadpoles.
Bazz cooked us up a great stew with baby potatoes, stoked the fire and told us many good yarns about his previous life. It felt like it was super late, and we were pretty tired, so decided to drag ourselves to bed, only to discover it was only just after 8pm.....totally weak!
