Leaving River Cottage

20/06/15 Lyme Regis to South Lytchett Minster (Poole)

Side Note: River Cottage HQ, from the TV show with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, is between Lyme Regis and Axminster. Right next door to us, and I love that series. You can do cooking courses etc there. $300 a day....yeah nah!

Rain was expected this morning, so we got up early to get packed before it started. It was lovely sitting in the sun having a coffee. Will zipped to the camp shop, and got us some ham, eggs and buns, and we cooked it up and had a nice breakfast, finishing just before the rain started.

We whipped the tent down quick smart, and the rain just barely happened. Phew, time to finish our coffees. We headed off through Lyme Regis, and enjoyed the drive towards Weymouth. Along the coast, it was similar to the Great Ocean road in Aus, just not quite as good, of course.

The High street in Lyme Regis. Lovely narrow street.

Abbotsbury, coming close to Weymouth. A huge peninsula. Awesome.

Will did a great job driving the narrow roads through the little villages on the way, and DC (GPS) did too. We stopped in Weymouth for a little explore, and found it to be an unusual town, with heaps of character. Being Saturday, there were plenty of people about, lots of shops, and of course, restaurants and pubs. It was a fishing village, originally, and there was a great variety of boats and fish and chip places. Something we have noticed in England, is that most towns seem to have a pub called The George, so we had to have lunch at one.

Love the fishing boats, and the colourful buildings.

That looks like lunch, and all the locals were there.

A nice walk along the harbour.

Random snapshot at a round about....

From Weymouth, we headed north east towards Poole/Bournemouth, and found the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Ground. It is huge, and pretty full. Phil and his wife, got us sorted in the field for one night, but tomorrow we'll have to move, as the fields are only for weekends and school holidays. Wow, it will be fun to watch some of these set ups packing up tomorrow.

Shot from our in-car annex.....nice and dry out of the rain.

Inside the "annex".

Aah, the rainbow....nice!

We had a good day, drove about 100kms, and now we are sitting on the camping chairs we stole from Sue and Brad, in the back of the van (doors open) waiting for this shower to pass. Frickin Aussie gypos, we are just loving it.
